Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards

The 17th Annual SAG Awards are one of my favorite award shows.  Anyone with a SAG card can vote for their fellow actors.  The awards were televised last Sunday but was on TBS or TNT.  And I get neither.  I did not actually see the show so I cannot give you a complete rundown.
I know, I know.  Dry those eyes.

I did manage to view all the acceptance speeches, so I'll give you a quick summary.

Ernest Borgnine
Recipient of SAG Lifetime Achievement Award
Ernest has a career that spans six decades filled with both television and film.  He won an Academy Award in 1955 for Marty.  My readers probably know him best as the voice of Mermaid Man from Spongebob Squarepants.  His award was presented to him by Morgan Freeman (who was wearing a black glove on his left hand?).  His speech was very sincere and sweet.

Steve Buschemi as Nucky Thompson for Boardwalk Empire
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
Steve was nervous as he graciously thanked his fellow nominee's.  Steve is due to win this category for at least the next couple years.  Boardwalk Empire is one of my favorite shows and Steve is a badass in it.  I just hope he still does his cameo's in every Adam Sandler movie...

Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy for 30 Rock
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Alec has dominated this category since 2007.  Which I think is well deserved considering he is one of the key players of 30 Rock (could it go on without him?!?).  Alec Baldwin can do it all - television and movies.  He, like Michael Douglas, is consistently in amazing films (and many of my favorites) since the 80s.  He started his speech with a joke that Tina Fey had just told him.  Tina had commented on how she didn't understand why Melissa Leo (The Fighter) was winning all the awards.  That she, in fact, was just playing Amy Poehler's real self in The Fighter.  (Amy is from Boston).  No one laughed in the audience.  But me.

Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick in The Good Wife
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
Julianna's speech was really sweet.  She thanked all the people she needed to thank from the show but ended with thanking her in-laws.  As everyone laughed, she thanked her in-laws for giving birth and raising their son - her husband.  She said that life could not go on without him.  Awww.
The only person I feel that way about is my car.

Claire Danes as Temple Grandin in Temple Grandin
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
(The always looking fabulous) Claire's speech was also sweet (sick of me saying that word already?).  She thanked her fellow nominee's - two of which were also Little Women (Wynona & Susan) and the other two were her co-stars from Temple.  She finished by thanking her husband - Hugh Dancy.

Betty White as Elka Ostrovsky in Hot in Cleveland
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
I'll preface this by saying - as anyone actually seen Hot in Cleveland?  Ummm because I don't know one person that watches it.  But any excuse to have Betty White on stage is good enough for me!  Betty started by praising her fellow co-stars (Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves & Valerie Bertinelli) and how they immediately got along so great.  She closed her speech by sexing up her naked man award.  Always keeping it classy Betty.  That's why we love you.

Al Pacino as Jack Kevorkian in You Don't Know Jack
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
(Al not in attendance).

Christian Bale as Dicky Ecklund in The Fighter
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Christian's speech was very sincere and boy do I love his English accent.  He got up on stage and started his speech only to find the real Dicky standing next to him.  Christian's praised him over and over again before the real Dicky finally exited the stage.  He probably got lost...  I would put money on Christian's winning the Academy Award.  Finally the Academy will give him the recognition he deserves for such an amazing career thus far.  After all, he is Batman.

Melissa Leo as Alice Ward in The Fighter
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
As you can see from this photo, Melissa was ecstatic to say the least about winning her award.  She was wide-eyed and stunned as she tried to pull herself together for her speech.  The thanked several people but got on this tangent about how the members of SAG should get together to make actors better.  So she went political on our asses.  But we'll forgive her.  Because she is a shit show.  She also gave a shout out to her daughters in the film who were in attendance at the awards (one of which is Conan O'Brien's sister!).

Colin Firth as King George VI in The King's Speech
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Colin is almost too cute to handle.  He is so funny and witty.  And English.
I could eat him for breakfast.  On an English muffin.

Modern Family
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
Ed O'Neal accepted the award on behalf of the cast members.  He was funny and the kids were super excited to be there.  But mostly I cannot stop staring at Sophia Vergara's tits.  And the fact that she has a 19 year old son.

Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers in Black Swan
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Natalie is always soooo cute.  She started off by thanking SAG for all the years she has been with them (she started acting when she was 11).  She also thanked everyone on the film and her parents for teaching her to "not be an asshole".  She ended by thanking her fiance.
I would spread her on my Colin Firth English muffin.
Here is hoping she can beat out Annette for the Oscar.

The King's Speech
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
Geoffrey Rush was nominated to speak for the group from The King's Speech.  Colin Firth & Helena Bonham Carter (who the fuck IS her stylist?) stood awkwardly behind him.  I have seen this film and could not agree more with it taking home the big prize.

Boardwalk Empire
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
Steve was nominated to speak for the group.  But he sort of ran out of things to say.  So Paz de la Huerta (far right in the photo) stepped in three different times to thank various people.  It was awkward and the audience laughed at her.

So that sum's up the 2011 SAG Awards that I love so.  Stay tuned for the fashions.

Here is my shout-out to Ernest:

Snow Day

Up here in the Northeast I have become to know something rather intimately.  A male?  No, not at all.  It's called snow.  And it's everywhere.  In heaps.

Generally, you get some kind of warning when a big storm is about to hit.  Last Wednesday, I had that warning yet received no phone call telling me not to come in to work.  I was supposed to close the restaurant that night but since the storm was supposed to hit at 6pm and my check-in time for work was also 6pm - I figured I did not have to work that night.  Boy, was I wrong.  I begrudgingly made my way to work as the little flurries fell to the ground.  I turn into the shopping center where TRH is and all the other eateries in the shopping center were already closed.  I made my way to the back where TRH is located and saw several cars in the front.  Looks like we are opened for business.  I am there really early so I tell them not to seat me so I can sit down because at this point - I'm still fighting a cold.  However, I look over to my section to see a table already waiting for me.  Assholes.

It's a bunch of pain in the ass Asians.  Fantastic.  People kept on coming into the door because we were the only place open.  Oh, and these people were obviously nuts.  Who goes out during a blizzard?  Apparently, hundreds of people.

We stayed pretty steady for a bit.  Our GM didn't want to close early because he wanted to beat the other TRH restaurants in sales.   What a tool bag.  Who puts money before the safety of there co-workers?

I got a table who left me $5 on an $80 tab.  Nothing wrong with the service other than me constantly looking lost (what's new?).  At this point, I am crying and laughing hysterically at the same time.  I cannot BELIEVE that we are working whilst snow is blowing down from the sky at 20 miles per hour.  I am shocked.

My co-workers are asking me if I am ok as I sob and giggle around the restaurant.
It's going to be a long night.

Finally, he decides to close at 8pm.  Fantastic.  The storm has been going on for two hours now.  Just enough snow on the ground to really cause a major accident.  My gay Christian and I are the serving closers with my manager friend Jen closing as well.  We decide to not fight the snow and just get a hotel room nearby.  It was the safest idea.  Thoughtfully, our GM actually paid for the hotel.  Well, the restaurant paid for it anyway.

We decide to eat at Chili's and then go back to the hotel.  Chili's told us that they were guaranteed to stay open until 11pm.  We finally made our way over to Chili's around 9:30pm with massive amounts of snow around us.  Jen asks me if I have even driven in the snow before to which I screamed "NO!".

We get to Chili's and make Christian jump out to double check that they are open.  He frolics like a fairy and comes back to tell us that they had fucking closed.  I should of known it with my Chili's history.  Pepperin' bastards.

We decide on making a trek to a bar near the Quality Inn where we were staying.  Christian called it and they said they were open.  Perfect.  Now just have to make it there safely...

It was a couple roads over.  Jen told me to slow down.  Ok grandma.  I pull into the bar's parking lot but someone is coming out at the same time.  I had to stop for them because they were fucking dousche bags.  And in the midst of the stopping, I get my car stuck.  Fucking great.

A couple plower guys were nearby and thankfully decided to help with Christian promising them beers and other favors.  Then this other trinket was coming out of the bar for a smoke and decides to 'help'. And by help, I mean give me directions that were entirely wrong and decide to yell at me about it.  I told him to shut the fuck up.  And no beers inside me yet...  I am so pleasant.

After several minutes, my car was not moving.  So plower #1 decided to give it a try.  And after a couple minutes, he manages to get it out of the heap of snow.  What a nice guy.  Even though he was missing a few teeth...

We make our way in to the bar and order drinks.  Smoker guy follows us and insists to know everything about me since I am from Texas.  He was a native Pennsylvanian Cowboys fan.  Which is unheard of up here.  Everyone is an Eagles or Steelers fan.  Oh and a sidenote, if I hear that Black & Yellow song one more time - I'm gonna barf.

The bar was not empty by any means.  The bartender looked like McLovin from Superbad with a mole on his face.   He said we could order anything that was fried.  So we got chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks and fries.  And beer.  Yup, I'm set for a while.  We had a good time eating and drinking.  Jen & I enjoyed watching Christian have his continuous dance party that no one but him was invited to.  We also listened to Britney Spear's new song 500 times.  Christian already knew half of the people in the bar so they were pretty used to him.  The other half stared for a while but eventually just got used to having a gay think he is in his own pop music video.  Jen and I kept the dancing to in our seats.  It was a lot of arm and head movements.  But sexy.

The owner/manager of the bar was a very Northern guy that came to chit chat us up every once and a while.  He proceeded to do what most people do that I encounter up here.
1. Ask why I moved up here.
2. Insist that I tell them a joke.
3.  I tell them that I don't know any jokes and they proceed to tell me that I'm not funny at all.
Blow me.

The bar had a fun atmosphere.  Some people that worked there were playing drinking games.  One dude had a 6th finger poking out of his pinky.  And then there was Christian's gay dance party.  So that fun lasted until about 1am when we decided to leave.

We made our way to the Quality Inn but passed by both entrances.  I did not think I could get my car into either.  Great.  No plows in sight.  So I did a u-turn and went back for another pass.  It was unanimous that I give it my best shot.  So I hit the accelerator and floored it into the first entrance.  And BOOM.  Stuck in the snow for the SECOND TIME.  We were really stuck this time and no toothless plowers in sight to help.  Jen suggested that we call the police.  I said, perfect idea.  "Yes officer, can you  get my car out of the snow?  Oh, and I've been drinking."  So we skipped that idea.

Christian got out to help push.  Bless his heart.  I've never seen someone so gay try to be so manly before.  He really was giving it his all.  After some reverse/drive shift switches and wheel turns, we slowly made it down the previous car's trek in the snow.  We got about halfway when I got stuck again.  I think it was Christian's pushing that really got us out of the snow.  Even though I almost ran him over.

We got out and made our way in the deep snow to the front desk.  A well-built black man was sitting behind the desk.  His name was Lester.  Christian was in love.  He pushed his creepy-ness 200%.  He told Lester that he should be a quarterback.  I said, "Christian.  Stop pretending to know about sports.  You have no idea what a quarterback does or what sport that is."  He agreed.  After asking Lester several times to join us in our motel room, we made our way to the vending machines for a late snack.

We finally found our room on the second floor.  Christian went to the bathroom to find that the light bulb was red.  Jesus.  We really are in a classy establishment.  Are the beds waterbeds too?  Are there condoms in the Bible in the nightstand?

Jen and I ate our snacks and got ready for bed.  Christian decided to have a photography session with himself in the red light bathroom.  After 30 minutes of that, he called Lester.  He asked him to come to our room again.  Then he asked for a wake-up call.  Then Christian went back to visit Lester and get more popcorn out of the vending machines.  When he got back, he/she decided to take a shower.  So he took a 20 minutes hot shower of him just rubbing himself whilst singing Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj and Avril Lavigne.  You know.  The greats.  Meanwhile, the red light keeps shutting off because it is on a timer.  You can't have too much red light time.

After his shower, Christian decided to have another 30 minute photo session of him with his towel.  Then he came out and tried to get cozy in his bed.  He tossed and turns for hours as his sheets came off the bed.  We finally get to sleep but I wake up minutes later to Christian snoring loudly.  That kept me up for an hour or so.  So I got a great night sleep at the motel that rents by the hour.

I woke up early to Katy texting me because she got stuck in Bensalem and we were supposed to have a meeting for our second job at 9am.  Since I had not had a good sleep, I woke up and was ready to go.  Jen was not too happy about this.

We got dressed and hit the road.  A night of two girls and one gay guy in his tighty whiteys was over.

I took them back to there car but they were both completely snowed in.  We had to wait for a plow truck to come by and get them out.  I made my way home looking at amazement at all the fucking snow.  Here are some shots of my drive home:

I tried to drive down my street but immediately got stuck.  This is what it looked like:

So I drove around for a while searching for a place to park.  By the time I found a place, Katy had arrived home as well.  I waited for her to park and we walked through the massive snow to her house.

We got there to find Bubba shoveling a way.  I looked over to the rest of the street that was virtually untouched.  My thought process?  It must be destroyed.

After handing the camera reigns to Jonathan, Katy & I got prepped for snow jumping.

I am serious.  Look at those fingers.  I look like E.T.

Before I knew it, Katy Anne had said 'GO!'.  For some reason, I was expecting a countdown...
So I look a little unprepared.

YAY SNOW!

Some friendly snow fighting.

Then without warning, Katy tackled me.  Which is MY MOVE.  She is such a copier.

This is right before I tackled Katy.  Look at my face.  Classic determination.
And a shout out to Jonathan for his finger in the shot.  Couldn't of done it without ya.

First snow day of 2011!

This picture is for dimension reasons.  Giving you an idea of what we are dealing with.

Time for a BBQ?

View from the house!

My first snow day was a disastrous mess.  We are supposed to have another one today...  Everyone wish me good luck.  This time I'm coming prepared with clothes and such.
Some for myself, some for Christian.

A Cellular Disaster

The worst thing happened to me last Tuesday night.  I left my beloved Blackberry at a restaurant and someone stole it.  You might just say, "Lauren, it is JUST a cell phone."  And to that I respond with a big FUCK YOU.  My Blackberry was my everything.  Contacts, addresses, e-mails, facebook, internet, calender, appointments, pictures, videos and bbm'ing (blackberry messenger).  I'll work out a little equation for you.  My blackberry = my life.

Tuesday night I met my friend Jen at TRH in Bensalem for drinks and food.  After that we hit up a bar for a couple more drinks.  When Katy got done working out, we met her at a diner in Bensalem for some more food.  I was showing Katy some text messages and left my phone on the table (like I usually do) to constantly check the time (because I'm a huge freak).  I got up to use the restroom and took my purse with me.  However, I left my Blackberry at the table.  When I got back, everyone had got up from the table so I proceeded to follow them to the door.  I had to take Jen back to her car, so I put my purse in the back seat which is something I usually don't do.  I made my way back home to Glenside and did not realize I had left my phone until I had gotten home.  I bombarded a nude Katy in her bedroom for some cellular assistance.  She called the diner and they said that they had not found a cell phone.  She called my cell phone several times but it just kept ringing.  Then all of the sudden, it went straight to voicemail.  I definitely had plenty of battery so I knew someone had taken it and turned it off.  I called AT&T and got my phone disconnected.  Then I panicked because my checking account number was on my phone (like I said, my life was on that phone) so I called Bank of America.  Talked to a dude and he reassured me that they couldn't do anything with my checking account number unless they had the routing number as well.  Whew.  It's a reliever that no one will be able to steal the whopping $50 I have in my life savings right now.

There was nothing left to do so Katy went to bed.  I got ready for bed and spent the majority of the night tossing and turning.  And crying.  Yes, crying over a cell phone.  I'm pathetic.  But let's face it, I don't have a lot going on these days.

I got up the next morning to go visit the diner.  I got there and asked the lady at the front if anyone turned in a cell phone.  She responding with yelling "WHAT?" at me in a foreign accent.  Perfect.  I repeated my statement and she shook her head and looked through a couple nearby drawers.  Great, thanks for the assistance.  I stopped by a nearby AT&T store and asked the salesman for my options.  He told me that I didn't have an upgrade until August so he issued me a new SIM card and told me to go purchase a cheap 'GO' phone.  So I traveled to Wal-Mart where I viewed my three options.  One for $20, one for $50 and one for $100.  Minus the price difference, they all looked like pieces of shit.  So I opted for the $20 one which actually turned out to be $15.  Score.  My new P.O.S. phone reminds me of the old, old cell phones.  It's like the Zach Morris phone.  Only, not quite that big.

My new shitty phone reminds me of my first cell phone.  It got me thinking and reflecting about all my past cell phones throughout the years.
The winners.  The losers.

First phone:
Just kidding.  Can you imagine carrying this around?  Where do you even attach it on your belt?

My first phone (really):
I really had this blue cover too.  I told my dad my sophomore year of high school that we should get cell phones.  He said "Ok".  That was pretty much my dads response to anything I ever wanted.  I used to be really spoiled.  Can you believe that?  My mother was not interested in a cell phone so dad and I headed to an AT&T store in Austin.  We decided on Nokia because most of my friends had Nokia.
Cause I'm a follower.

I had to have a 101 teaching course with my dad on how to use his cell phone.  Only this course is ongoing (10 years going).  He is too stubborn to learn how to do anything on his own.  To this day, he can barely turn his cell phone on and off.  He can make/receive calls and check his voicemail.  That is it.  However, one up from my mother.  She doesn't know how to check her voicemail.  So her voicemail box has been full since 2003.

My first phone got the job done.  One day I was hanging out in the sophomore hall after lunch.  Yes, my high school had designated halls for sophomores, juniors and seniors.  Designated not by the school.  But by cool people like myself.  I left my phone in the hallway.  When I went back later to retrieve it, it was long gone.  My first cell phone and my Blackberry are the only ones I have ever left/stolen/lost.  I lived without this one.  I'll keep you posted if I continue with live without my Blackberry.

Second phone:
My friend Danielle had this phone, so I had to have it.  Like I said, I'm a follower.  It was really expensive for phones during that time.  But I wanted it so I got it (spoiled, God I miss getting whatever I wanted).  This phone still rocked the black/white background.  It was really small and I liked it.  However, one day it just stopped working.  So on to the next phone.

Third phone:
Again with the Nokia, I was obsessed with them apparently.  This was the first color background I got and was one of the first out of my friends to get it.  I'll do anything to get ahead.

Both sides of the phone were plastic and you could remove them to put your own cover inside it:
You could buy one like these or design one yourself.  I thought it was really cool to design one myself.  I think the first one I made was my name covered in rainbow colors.  It wasn't until later in life when I realized that symbol made me appear to be a huge lesbian.  I guess that is why no guys wanted to date me in high school.  Well, one of the reasons anyway.

After my rainbow Lauren one got water inside it and ruined, I made another cover.  This was around the time when I decided to go to Texas A&M.  So I put maroon stickers on there that said 'Texas A&M' with my graduation year - 2008 - also on there.  I thought I was really cool.

I was.

Kinda.

Fourth phone:

One day my friend Hilary got a new Motorola flip phone.  Well, I wanted that one too.  Flip phones were coming into style and I liked the idea of it.  So I got one.

Every time I flipped the phone open, I felt invincible.  But apparently I flipped it a little too much...
My friend Heather is going to love this picture.  As you can see, my phone is hanging in two pieces.  We were on our Senior Spring Break trip in Port Aransas.  This trip was a nightmare for me.  Not only did my phone break in half, my Tahoe was one of the cars we took down to the coast and it so happened to break down in Port A.  Thank goodness my friend Kyle was able to fix it.  But he didn't have the chops to fix my cell phone.  After a day or so of it hanging by a cord, it finally broke into two pieces.
 Piece of shit flip phone.

Fifth phone:
After my bad flip phone experience with Motorola, it was back to Nokia.  My dad also got this phone with me (his second phone).  It was another 101 session on teaching him how to use this phone.  So that took a couple years.

I had this phone for the longest.  I had it my senior year of high school and my first three years of college.  It was a good durable phone and I put it threw a lot.  I had many good times with it.

Sixth phone:
I switched back to Motorola because I fell in love with how skinny this phone was.  It was the perfect back-pocket size.  Most of you might think this was the Motorola Sliver.  In actuality, it was the cheap Sliver version.  I had this phone for a while and began to realize this when I could no longer see the writing on the number pad...

I got a lot of guy's numbers with this phone.  Well, at least two guys that I can remember.

BOOM.

Seventh phone:
iPhone's were coming into existence and the touch screen was the new thing.  I had to get involved in that.  Somehow.  Some way.  So I got this bad boy - the LG VU.

Biggest.  Piece.  of.  Shit.  Ever.

I would go to hit 'Media Net' and it would choose 'Games'.  Cute.

After a couple years with this phone, I was available for an upgrade.  And I wanted to go big.  I saved up and purchased myself a boyfriend.  No, not a hooker.  But a Blackberry.

Eighth phone:
The Blackberry Curve was amazing.  Blackberry had 86'd the ball and replaced it with with the micropad. It was my very own mini-computer and organizer.  Everything I could possibly have wanted was one touch away.  Perfection.

See how sexy my Blackberry made me?
And how ugly it made Bari?

Then hell happened last Tuesday and I was forced into a deep depression.  They don't call it a 'crackberry' for nothing.  I was addicted to it.  This past week I have gone through serious withdrawals.  Shakes.  sweats.  Vomiting.

Pain.

My forced Ninth phone:
First of all, it looks like a fucking space station.  It takes me 20 minutes to type out a text message.  I never know when it is ringing because I cannot hear it.  It is hideous.

My new thing at work is to walk through the alley in the kitchen with my phone in the air asking "DOES ANYONE NEED TO MAKE A CALL???!!!!!"

Some people laugh but most of my co-workers just look at me confused.  My friend Matthew told me it reminded him of Romy & Michele's High School Reunion:
"Hey, if anyone needs to make a call, I've got a phone!"

I got a hold of my dad and told him the devastating news.  He was heartbroken for me.  I told him it was the first phone that I have left somewhere since high school.  He proceeded to argue with me that we didn't get our first cell phones in high school.  I kept reassuring him that it was and he kept repeating, "ARE YOU SHITTING ME?"  No, dad.  I'm not 'shitting' you.

After we had that mini-argument, he proceeded to tell me that he thought he should get the FBI involved in the loss of my Blackberry.  Sadly, he was half serious.  I reassured him that the FBI probably have better things to do with there time.

In high school at the condos where my dad and I lived after my parents divorced, my dad walked out early in the morning to find several of our cars vandalized.   The front window shields were bashed in by a sledgehammer.  He came upstairs to wake me up to tell me and then he called the police.  This being a month or so after 9/11, my father insisted that Osama bin Laden was to blame.  He thought that bin Laden was taking out our transportation systems so we would be defenseless in our homes.  I told him that was ridiculous.  However, that did not stop him from telling the police officer his theory.  Several times.

Turns out a neighbors boyfriend got pissed at his girlfriend and decided to take it out on all of our vehicles.  His name was not Osama bin Laden.

My dad is so sweet and really felt for my loss.  I don't think you can say that about many dads.

I asked around to my fellow Blackberry friends begging to buy there old Blackberry's.  So hopefully I won't have to deal with this Samsung space station much longer.  It looks like a tiny vibrator.

Pray for me and my sanity.

"Whatever happened to chivalry?  Does it only exist in 80's movies?  I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window.  I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey.  I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me.  I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he know she got me.  Just once I want my life to be like an 80's movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life."
