Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards

The 17th Annual SAG Awards are one of my favorite award shows.  Anyone with a SAG card can vote for their fellow actors.  The awards were televised last Sunday but was on TBS or TNT.  And I get neither.  I did not actually see the show so I cannot give you a complete rundown.
I know, I know.  Dry those eyes.

I did manage to view all the acceptance speeches, so I'll give you a quick summary.

Ernest Borgnine
Recipient of SAG Lifetime Achievement Award
Ernest has a career that spans six decades filled with both television and film.  He won an Academy Award in 1955 for Marty.  My readers probably know him best as the voice of Mermaid Man from Spongebob Squarepants.  His award was presented to him by Morgan Freeman (who was wearing a black glove on his left hand?).  His speech was very sincere and sweet.

Steve Buschemi as Nucky Thompson for Boardwalk Empire
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
Steve was nervous as he graciously thanked his fellow nominee's.  Steve is due to win this category for at least the next couple years.  Boardwalk Empire is one of my favorite shows and Steve is a badass in it.  I just hope he still does his cameo's in every Adam Sandler movie...

Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy for 30 Rock
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Alec has dominated this category since 2007.  Which I think is well deserved considering he is one of the key players of 30 Rock (could it go on without him?!?).  Alec Baldwin can do it all - television and movies.  He, like Michael Douglas, is consistently in amazing films (and many of my favorites) since the 80s.  He started his speech with a joke that Tina Fey had just told him.  Tina had commented on how she didn't understand why Melissa Leo (The Fighter) was winning all the awards.  That she, in fact, was just playing Amy Poehler's real self in The Fighter.  (Amy is from Boston).  No one laughed in the audience.  But me.

Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick in The Good Wife
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
Julianna's speech was really sweet.  She thanked all the people she needed to thank from the show but ended with thanking her in-laws.  As everyone laughed, she thanked her in-laws for giving birth and raising their son - her husband.  She said that life could not go on without him.  Awww.
The only person I feel that way about is my car.

Claire Danes as Temple Grandin in Temple Grandin
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
(The always looking fabulous) Claire's speech was also sweet (sick of me saying that word already?).  She thanked her fellow nominee's - two of which were also Little Women (Wynona & Susan) and the other two were her co-stars from Temple.  She finished by thanking her husband - Hugh Dancy.

Betty White as Elka Ostrovsky in Hot in Cleveland
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
I'll preface this by saying - as anyone actually seen Hot in Cleveland?  Ummm because I don't know one person that watches it.  But any excuse to have Betty White on stage is good enough for me!  Betty started by praising her fellow co-stars (Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves & Valerie Bertinelli) and how they immediately got along so great.  She closed her speech by sexing up her naked man award.  Always keeping it classy Betty.  That's why we love you.

Al Pacino as Jack Kevorkian in You Don't Know Jack
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
(Al not in attendance).

Christian Bale as Dicky Ecklund in The Fighter
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Christian's speech was very sincere and boy do I love his English accent.  He got up on stage and started his speech only to find the real Dicky standing next to him.  Christian's praised him over and over again before the real Dicky finally exited the stage.  He probably got lost...  I would put money on Christian's winning the Academy Award.  Finally the Academy will give him the recognition he deserves for such an amazing career thus far.  After all, he is Batman.

Melissa Leo as Alice Ward in The Fighter
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
As you can see from this photo, Melissa was ecstatic to say the least about winning her award.  She was wide-eyed and stunned as she tried to pull herself together for her speech.  The thanked several people but got on this tangent about how the members of SAG should get together to make actors better.  So she went political on our asses.  But we'll forgive her.  Because she is a shit show.  She also gave a shout out to her daughters in the film who were in attendance at the awards (one of which is Conan O'Brien's sister!).

Colin Firth as King George VI in The King's Speech
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Colin is almost too cute to handle.  He is so funny and witty.  And English.
I could eat him for breakfast.  On an English muffin.

Modern Family
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
Ed O'Neal accepted the award on behalf of the cast members.  He was funny and the kids were super excited to be there.  But mostly I cannot stop staring at Sophia Vergara's tits.  And the fact that she has a 19 year old son.

Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers in Black Swan
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Natalie is always soooo cute.  She started off by thanking SAG for all the years she has been with them (she started acting when she was 11).  She also thanked everyone on the film and her parents for teaching her to "not be an asshole".  She ended by thanking her fiance.
I would spread her on my Colin Firth English muffin.
Here is hoping she can beat out Annette for the Oscar.

The King's Speech
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
Geoffrey Rush was nominated to speak for the group from The King's Speech.  Colin Firth & Helena Bonham Carter (who the fuck IS her stylist?) stood awkwardly behind him.  I have seen this film and could not agree more with it taking home the big prize.

Boardwalk Empire
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
Steve was nominated to speak for the group.  But he sort of ran out of things to say.  So Paz de la Huerta (far right in the photo) stepped in three different times to thank various people.  It was awkward and the audience laughed at her.

So that sum's up the 2011 SAG Awards that I love so.  Stay tuned for the fashions.

Here is my shout-out to Ernest:

"You see, Mr. Scott?  In the water I'm a very skinny lady."
-Mrs. Belle Rosen played by Shelley Winters in Poseidon Adventure
